Hello, I'm Heather

IshidaHeadshot.JPG

I'm a millennial therapist, which means that I understand the unique challenges that millennials and folks from Gen Z experience in our modern world.  Therapy with me looks like a collaborative relationship in which we work together to address what is going on in your life and move toward meeting your goals. You are the expert of your life and experiences - not me! I offer a compassionate space free of judgment for you to explore your past, present, and future in order to be the best and most authentic you. I specialize in working with anxiety, self esteem, depression, life transitions, and exploration of spirituality and religious trauma. My approach is LGBTQ affirming, feminist, sex-positive, and body positive. I enjoy working with folks to increase compassion for themselves, find meaning in life, and reframe their past narratives in a positive way.

Mental health is more than just a diagnosis of depression or anxiety. It shows up in our relationships, our work, our hopes and dreams, and our view of ourselves. My background is in social work - as a therapist, that means that I work with you to identify outside factors that affect your mental health (family, work, society, stigma, oppression, etc.). You do not exist in a bubble and are affected by things outside of yourself. I also believe in a strong connection between mind, body, heart, and spirit. When working with me in therapy, thoughts are not the only focus. We will also discuss how to bring healing and peace to the other parts of you as well.

I provide therapy via telehealth, so that you can fit therapy into your busy schedule or participate in appointments from the comfort of your home. I am able to work with clients who are located anywhere in California. I am currently located in Sacramento, but am a full-time therapist with Meridian Counseling, based in Los Angeles. I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of CA with license LCSW #107547.

About Me: About Me

Approach

Therapy is not one size fits all. I believe therapy should be tailored for you and your needs. It is most important to me that you feel that therapy is helpful to you. I pull from theories and modalities such as acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, and attachment theory to work with you toward meeting your goals.

Education

I completed my bachelor’s degree with a double major in psychology and social welfare from the University of California, Berkeley. I was able to continue my education at California State University, Sacramento and received my Master of Social Work degree in 2019 with a specialization in behavioral health.

Experience

I have experience working in primary care, schools, and community mental health. I have worked with clients ages 4-80, providing support through life transitions and stressors, collaborating on interdisciplinary teams, treating mild to severe mental illness.
